Indian Health Service Security Guard in United States

Summary This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to provide security guard services for the facility. Responsible for the protection of life and property of all persons on government and federal leased premises and patrols all such property and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. **Note: This is an Open Continuous Announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur. Responsibilities Protects property and equipment against trespass, theft, fire, and accidental or willful damage and destruction. Monitors access to premises by verifying authorization using locally established badge and vehicle registration systems. Ensures all personnel from the NAIHS Service Units, federal and state Agencies, tribal, general public display their identification card, state valid driver's license or state personal identification card to gain entry into the facility. Conducts periodic established interior/perimeter and vehicle parking lots/facility access roads foot patrols to detect physical security breaches and trespassing, including checking and/or securing sensitive areas. May drive a government motor vehicle in the performance of duties. Maintains a daily activity log to document shift activity and reviews the data to determine trends of incidents that need to be reported to the supervisor. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying. Or Education/Training: Education: Successfully completed study at an accredited college or university in any subject is fully qualifying in the amount and level specified in the table. Training: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-4 level on a month-for-month basis. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04 grade level: Six (6) months general experience and six (6) months specialized experience. Your resume must demonstrate at least six (6) months of general experience and at least six (6) months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: enforcing security rules and regulations, following facility restraint policy, escorting patients as needed, directing visitors to the appropriate department. or 2 years above high school. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. You may qualify based on education. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
