EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The job of the Maintenance technician is for the purpose of providing maintenance to indoor and outdoor facilities at a standard that will ensure a safe, attractive, efficient, and clean environment for the students and staff of the Mt. Pleasant Community School District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:-Preventative maintenance of District equipment and buildings

-Processing building work orders for repair of equipment or facilities

-Snow removal at District sites

-Assist in the setup of school functions as needed

-Carry out additional requests of building principal and Director of Building and Grounds

-Other duties may be assigned

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Valid Iowa Driver's license

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

-Knowledge of the use and care of materials, tools, and equipment

-Ability to plan, organize, and carry out work schedules efficiently

-Responsible attitude towards job and fellow workers

-Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions

-Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis

-Effective oral and written communications

-Ability to work independently

-Aptitude for detail

-Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions

-Capable of representing the school District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, communication skills, and the ability to present a professional personal image

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS:

-Electrical experience - certification preferred but not required

-Plumbing experience - certification preferred but not required

-HVAC system experience

-Construction experience (all phases)

-Machining/Welding experience preferred but not required

-Mechanical experience including pumps, piping, engines, boilers preferred but not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel objects, tools or controls; talk and hear. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and forward 0 -24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp items. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds 0 - 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as curriculum materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is usually quiet but employees may work in areas of a building operate equipment where hearing protection is recommended. The employee will move, stand, squat on an assortment of surfaces including tile, wood, terrazzo, and concrete. The employee will generally work inside but will be required to work outside during hot or cold weather, rain snow, sleet and icy conditions performing their duties. The employee will stand or move on surfaces that are damp.

Letter of assignment - hourly. Work year as established by the Board of Directors. Salary established by district-adopted salary schedules.
