This job contributes to REI’s success by serving as Safety Administrator for the Distribution Center to ensure that all operations are conducted according to health and safety regulations, standards, policies and procedures in support of the Company’s business initiatives and objectives. Responsibilities include monitoring, reporting, and training on safety compliance. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.

  • Serves as an example to other employees by consistently demonstrating safe work habits, which contribute to teamwork, productivity, and efficiency; maintains own current knowledge and skill of appropriate regulations, rules, procedures and techniques to train and coach department employees.

  • Administers safety plans to ensure compliance with regulations, rules, procedures, and effective execution of Company goals; provides input to the annual department business plan.

  • Monitors daily DC processes to ensure that work meets safety standards; provides regular status reports; analyzes and develops changes for systems, procedures, policies and practices.

  • Ensures safe employee operation and adequate maintenance of equipment including but not limited to: forklifts, lift trucks, conveyors, and box knives; requests service and/or replenishment of supplies as appropriate; operates and trains according to federal, state and local requirements; maintains inventory to support training and education needs.

  • Maintains ongoing relationships and serves as member on various committees to represent departmental and/or overall Company interests; communicates Company needs and expectations internally or externally; provides review, input, and recommendations as appropriate. Maintain safety records and documents by the applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Audits practices and records of the various departments to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state safety and health regulations.

  • Assist with safety committee meetings, monthly safety trainings and safety incentive programs, including documentation, tracking and reporting

  • Assist Security and facility teams in emergency response plan review, safety drills and equipment maintenance. Complete fire safety inspections; assist EHS and Ops teams in coordinating third party audits and inspections

  • Performs others duties, as assigned.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in health and safety or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of general principles, practices, and regulations in the health and safety field.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include all 24 hours of the day at various times throughout the 7 day week.

  • Skill operating a personal computer using MS Office, including Word and Excel, as well as applications specific to field.

  • Ability to effectively demonstrate health and safety techniques in a group setting.

  • Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.

  • Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at REI.

  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.

Pay Range

$23.80 - $26.45 per hour
