Job Summary

The Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics at the University of Chicago Law School seeks a Research Specialist to work with Professor Adriana Robertson on projects at the intersection of finance and law. Tasks will include assisting with the development of research projects, obtaining and cleaning data, conducting quantitative data analysis, and assisting with the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and presentations related to research findings. The role is intended to operate on a \'pre doc\' model, with the Research Specialist remaining in the role for one or two years before pursing graduate studies, although this can be extended by mutual agreement. Responsibilities

  • Assembles, cleans and manages data sets.
  • Designs and tests econometric models / conducts complex data analysis.
  • Creates tables and figures to communicate findings.
  • Simultaneously manages the delivery of potentially multiple research projects adhering to deadlines and high standards of quality.
  • Writes and edits research documentation.
  • Discovers new data sources and cleans/prepares data for faculty use.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • A college or university degree in economics, finance, computer science, or a related field, including some background in financial economics.
  • An advanced degree in finance or economics, or a related field with evidence of strong statistics, programming, and empirical analysis.

Experience:

  • Experience programming with Stata and Python.
  • Additional familiarity programing with R.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Strong English language skills.

  • Ability to work effectively across multiple projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
