MTC Director Of Nursing-DON in Chaparral, New Mexico

Overview

Pay Rate: $ 90,000 Per Year

Employment Type: Full-time, Direct hire

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, occasional weekend shifts.

Location: 10 McGregor Range Road Chaparral, NM 88081

Position responsibilities include:

  • Monitor health services unit and act as a clinical resource for staff.

  • Oversee and assign duties to nursing personnel as appropriate to caseload, shift/unit, and supervise performance.

  • Assure adequate coverage on all shifts and fill in as needed during periods of short staffing.

  • Monitor call-ins and overtime usage by assuming on call status for staff problems and the absence of the health services administrator.

  • Conduct in-services, audits, chart reviews, statistical evaluations, and inform staff of changes in policy or procedure.

  • Provide oversight of sick calls, medication administration, and other clinical activities.

  • Coordinate and report referral of detainees to emergency services based on their medical condition.

  • Assist the health services administrator with training of security and medical staff for safety/health related issues.

  • Perform inspections and generate recommendations based on results.

  • Review medical files to determine if all provided services are documented accurately, legibly, and promptly.

  • Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary and compliance with all pharmacy regulations.

  • Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures.

  • Take appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.

  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters by administering basic emergency medical aid.

  • Ensure that detainees arriving at the facility are oriented to services available and appropriate procedures for obtaining medical services.

  • Verify that all detainees assigned to work as medical orderlies are properly trained and execute the handling of contaminated waste with the appropriate environmental sanitation methods.

  • Assist the health services administrator in recruiting, orienting, supervising, and evaluating the performance of all healthcare staff.

  • Complete a yearly written evaluations on all directly supervised staff and a six-month evaluation on new employees.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Completion of an Accredited Registered Nursing program.

  • Minimum of three years professional nursing experience with one year of supervisory experience.

  • Must be a licensed registered nurse in the state of California.

  • Must possess current CPR certification.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Valid drivers license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
