Carolina Sunrock Maintenance Technician in Butner, North Carolina

The Role

The Maintenance Technician will diagnose, repair, maintain, and assist others with the day-to-day plant maintenance and other functions of multiple plants. This role is required to work safely and productively in an industrial maintenance environment. The technician should be available for any schedule and have the ability to move to our other locations as needed, including overtime and weekends.

In this position, routine duties are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices or procedures allow the employee to proceed alone at routine work. There is an occasional check of work while in progress and work is reviewed upon completion. The technician must be highly motivated, able to complete tasks without supervision and have the ability to communicate issues to their manager. Good judgment and common sense are required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned and directed by the Manager of Plant Maintenance. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10 %) may be required. This job description provides an overview of the responsibilities and tasks to be performed. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or Manager Safety & Health.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.

  • Inspects the rolling equipment, and utilizes the skid steer, dump truck, and sweeper.

  • Maintains and assists in the reporting of the maintenance completed, parts replaced, and issues on each piece of equipment.

  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repairs for machinery.

  • Identifies issues on plants, communicates issues, and offers suggestions to management.

  • Helps assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, mechanical power transmission machinery, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and helps repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

  • Cuts and permanently joins metal parts together using various welding techniques and equipment.

  • Maintains the plants by assisting with, managing, and leading repairs and breakdowns as needed; helps with the clean-up of the site.

  • Inspects machinery and equipment visually, and reports any malfunctions.

  • Performs and assists in the dismantling of defective machines and equipment and installation of new or repaired parts.

  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.

  • Clears working areas and equipment in and around the facility and office including the use of high pressure hoses, digging and maintaining drainage ditches, and shoveling muck, stone and sand from around employees or fixed equipment.

  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

  • Lubricates plant conveyors as well as change gearbox oils.

  • Operates front-end loader to receive, load, and fill material in HMA plants as needed.

  • Climbs stairways and catwalks to perform duties.

  • Loads and unloads incoming and outgoing products and supplies manually.

  • Maintains, cleans, and sweeps all areas of the concrete site, HMA site, and areas surrounding the site location.

  • Is accountable for all work performed.

  • Performs other duties as directed.

    Education and/or Experience

    A combination of education, training, and/ or experience that demonstrates the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description is required. Generally 2+ years of experience in directly applicable work (vehicle or equipment maintenance, heavy equipment operation, ect.) and welding experience (certified or non-certified).

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Current North Carolina Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required.
