MUNICIPALITY OF BETHEL PARK Part-Time Code Enforcement/Building Inspector in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania

Under the supervision of the Code Enforcement Officer, performs a variety of duties in support of the Municipality's local building inspection and code enforcement/property maintenance program; monitors a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, health and safety, blight, and other matters of public concern.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning and participating in various building inspection and code enforcement activities; preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files
  • Conducting field investigations to inspect property for code violations, preparing notices and citations
  • Attend court hearings for ordinance violations
  • Prepare weekly reports regarding violation status 
  • Schedule and perform all follow-up functions to gain compliance for ordinance violations, including letters, inspections, calls, meetings, discussions, and negotiations
  • Maintaining electronic and hard copy files of all inspection reports, photographs, and relevant documentation for use in weekly reports and court appearances
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees and the public; communicating effectively orally and in writing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of zoning code enforcement
  • Knowledge of building, construction, engineering and structural engineering principles and practices
  • Knowledge of minimum housing, signs, fire codes and related regulations
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with other employees, government officials, and the general public
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form, firmness and tact in enforcing codes and ordinances
  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by course work in building and code inspection, engineering, city planning, architecture or related field
  • Customer service experience
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Pennsylvania
