Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

Patrols Virginia Hospital Center facilities and property to maintain order, protect personnel, and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc. Enforces Virginia Hospital Center policies and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and employees. Responds to other Security requirements of the VHC campus. Responds to complaints of wrongdoing and prepares incident reports / activity logs.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Experience:

Two year of experience as a security officer is required.

One year of significant customer service delivery is preferred.

Supervisory experience is preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Virginia DCJS Unarmed Security Officer License to be obtained within six months.

Valid state driver's license is required.

Clean driving record is required.

Other Qualifications

Employees hired prior to the September 1, 2021 job description update (to certification section) will obtain their Virginia DCJS Unarmed Security Officer License within 6 months of the effective date of the job description version, no later than March 1, 2022.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Nursing Supervisor to resolve any issues.

  • Makes frequent patrols of the hospital and grounds.

  • Makes routine fire extinguisher checks. Ensures that problems with fire extinguishers are documented and reported.

  • Ensures that incident reports are prepared for unusual circumstances, such as theft, vandalism, disorderly conduct/behavior, missing property, suspicious individuals or occurrences, personal or vehicular accident. Carefully includes all medical codes and any occurrences deemed important in incident reports.

  • Collects, inventories, and releases lost and found items.

  • Takes prompt action for violations of hospital policies in accordance with institutional policies or directives.

  • Inform appropriate personnel of any adverse events or changes in the workplace.

  • Demonstrate ability to properly monitor and use computer-based security systems, fire alarm systems, and facilities monitoring systems.

Hourly Range: $26.00-$33.00 an hour based on experience not including shift differentials
